The Brentwood Principals and Supervisors Organization was formed in 1968 because of the New York State Taylor Law which gave school employees the right to negotiate. The predecessor of BPSO was the Brentwood Principals Association, a branch of the Brentwood Teachers Association for a short period of time. The group of about twenty members that was both a social organization and a group that reached a salary agreement with the Brentwood Board of Education. Today, the Brentwood Principals and Supervisors Organization is it a stand-alone unit with almost 90 active members.
